HONOR OAK CHILD RAPIST NII 'KOJO' BORTEY SENTENCED
A convicted sexual predator from Honor Oak has been sentenced to prison for raping a minor.Nii ‘Kojo’ Bortey, aged 31, carried out a violent and prolonged sexual assault on a young girl in September of the previous year.
Woolwich Crown Court was informed that after the assault, Bortey attempted to buy the morning-after pill at a pharmacy but decided against it when told it was not available free of charge.
When authorities investigated the case, they searched his phone and uncovered photographs depicting young girls as young as six being subjected to sexual abuse and rape.
Bortey initially admitted to the police and pleaded guilty to child rape; however, while in custody, he sought to change his plea to not guilty.
He later reverted to his guilty plea and appeared before the court for sentencing on August 18.
The judge described him as a “rudderless and isolated” man who, despite being employed regularly, had not found his true purpose.
Judge David Miller stated that the images found on his phone demonstrated that Bortey was attracted to young girls and interested in sexual acts involving minors and adults.
Concluding that he was a risk to society, the judge handed down an extended sentence.
Bortey received a prison sentence of 13 years and three months, along with an extended licence of eight years.
He is required to serve at least two-thirds of his sentence before parole considerations, and if he is not considered safe for release, he will remain imprisoned for the full duration.
Following his release, he will be on licence until 2046.
