BOURNEMOUTH MAN JAILED FOR ASKING '14-YEAR-OLD GIRL' FOR INDECENT IMAGES
A man named Andrew Gordon James Short, aged 26 at the time of the offences and now 28, was involved in messaging a social media account pretending to be a 14-year-old girl.
Over five days, he asked her to send indecent images of herself and sent indecent images of himself, including a video of himself performing a sex act.
Bournemouth Crown Court heard that the decoy account was operated by a woman and the contact was initiated by Short.
He pleaded guilty to attempting to communicate sexually with a child and attempting to cause a child to watch a sexual act.
Short was arrested at his home on March 21, 2021, after police were alerted by the decoy account handlers.
In court, he admitted to messaging the underage girl, claiming he thought he had a problem and was addicted to sex.
Mitigating, his solicitor stated he was experiencing a difficult personal situation, caring for his partner and newborn while managing epilepsy.
He was assessed as having a realistic prospect of rehabilitation, and the court sentenced him to a two-year community order, 40 days of rehabilitation, 160 hours of unpaid work, a sexual harm prevention order, and five years on the sex offenders register.
