ANDREW DAVID KEENAN FROM RHYL SENTENCED FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND ASSAULTS
Andrew David Keenan, a man residing on Deva Crescent in Rhyl, has been found guilty of a series of serious domestic violence-related offenses.The court proceedings revealed a disturbing pattern of abusive behavior, with Keenan being described as a 'controlling bully' who became 'extremely violent' when under the influence of alcohol.
According to the reports presented during the trial, Keenan subjected his wife, Andrea Keenan, to a range of brutal assaults.
These included pouring boiling water over her, violently banging her head against the floor, and coercing her into transferring a substantial sum of money—£20,000—by forcefully grabbing her thumb and unlocking her phone.
These acts of violence and coercion came to light after an incident in June 2020, which occurred in front of a friend of Andrea Keenan.
During this incident, Keenan was demanding the transfer of the money, which was particularly significant because it coincided with a period when he was heavily intoxicated and had taken out a bank loan intended for home improvements.
Although Keenan eventually returned the money and issued an apology, the court heard that this was not an isolated incident.
His wife revealed during the investigation that he had a history of violent outbursts, some of which had been severe.
The court also learned that Keenan's violent tendencies extended beyond his immediate family, as he was convicted of additional charges including assault, criminal damage, and drink driving.
The judge overseeing the case described Keenan as 'an extremely violent man when drunk' and emphasized his controlling and aggressive nature.
The court noted that his hostility was not limited to his wife but also extended to others, with particular mention of his discriminatory attitudes based on sexual preferences.
In light of his behavior, Keenan was sentenced to a prison term of two years and eight months.
Additionally, he received a three-year driving ban and a five-year restraining order that prohibits him from contacting his wife and a woman named Helen Blundell.
It was also noted during sentencing that Keenan has since ceased drinking alcohol, a change that has reportedly contributed to some improvement in his behavior.
Nonetheless, the court's decision underscores the severity of his violent and controlling conduct, especially as it relates to alcohol abuse and domestic violence.
