SUTTON MAN JAILED NEARLY 20 YEARS FOR RAPE IN 1998
A man named Andrew Boys from Sutton was convicted for a sexual assault that occurred in February 1998.The attack involved Boys driving a woman in central London who mistakenly entered his car believing it was a minicab.
He took her to a secluded area in Fulham, where he threatened to 'dump her into the Thames' if she tried to escape.
During the assault, Boys forced the victim into the back seat of the car and raped her, asserting that he would throw her in the river if she continued to struggle.
After the attack, he returned the victim to her home, where she contacted police.
The initial investigation did not identify the suspect, but in 2015, DNA evidence linked Boys to the crime.
He was arrested at his home in Sutton on December 3, 2015, and charged with rape and false imprisonment.
He was found guilty of rape at Southwark Crown Court and sentenced to nearly 20 years in prison on September 7, 2017.
The false imprisonment charge was ordered to lie on file.
The investigation was led by Detective Sergeant Gemma Robb, who highlighted that the case's age did not prevent pursuit and emphasized support for victims to come forward regardless of how much time has passed.
