KIRKCALDY OFFENDER JAILED FOR SMEARING EXCREMENT AND SEXUAL ACTS IN POLICE CUSTODY
Andrew Ashcroft, aged 40, who was in custody at Kirkcaldy Police Station, committed a disturbing act by smearing excrement on the walls of his cell and performing a sexual act in front of a police officer. He was sentenced to an additional 15 months in prison and was ordered to register as a sex offender for 10 years.
Ashcroft admitted to behaving in a threatening and abusive manner by defecating on the cell floor, smearing faeces on the walls and windows, and making homophobic and racist remarks on February 5 while on bail.
He also confessed to making sexual remarks to a male police officer and performing a sex act in his presence.
Previously, Ashcroft, who has convictions for assault and robbery, had been taken into custody and transported to hospital under suspicion of concealing drugs.
His solicitor explained that he had been in handcuffs from the time he was taken to hospital until his return to the cells and into the early hours, citing frustration as a cause for his behavior.
During an earlier hearing at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court, Ashcroft had to be restrained by security officers when it was announced his name would be added to the sex offenders register.
After sentencing, he was led away quietly by officers.
