WOMAN JAILED FOR MURDERING ESTRANGED HUSBAND
Amy Pugh is currently standing trial on charges of murdering her husband, Kyle Pugh. The court has closely examined her portrayal of the events, where she described herself as a 'worried' wife who believed she had found Kyle hanging outside their family home in Newport, Shropshire, and made an urgent 999 call on March 22, 2022.
Prosecutors, however, allege that Amy was responsible for causing the injuries that led to Kyle’s death.
The 30-year-old man had sustained neck compression, fractures to neck structures, a broken nose, and damage to his eye socket.
Evidence presented during the trial indicated that Kyle and Amy’s relationship was marked by frequent volatility, turbulence, and abuse, often involving physical violence fueled by substances.
It is argued that Amy managed to overpower Kyle, gaining control and intentionally applying pressure to his neck through methods such as a chokehold or strangulation, which the court considers unlawful violence directed at his neck.
Amy’s call to emergency services has been scrutinized, with prosecutors claiming her story was calculated deception aimed at hiding her involvement in the attack.
They also allege that shortly after the incident, she answered a phone call from Kyle’s new girlfriend, claiming Kyle was never returning and was elsewhere.
The court was told Kyle was aware of her vulnerabilities, which she sought to exploit, and despite a history of self-harm, he had plans to meet friends and family that evening, suggesting he was not suicidal.
Prosecutors emphasized that her actions constituted a violent assault, not an act of suicide or self-harm.
The trial continues as further evidence is presented, with Amy maintaining that she only found Kyle hanging and tried to wake him by slapping him, denying any involvement with his girlfriend.
The case remains unresolved at this stage.
