A man accused of attempting to solicit sex from a girl on Snapchat has avoided imprisonment after his conduct was found to involve messaging an undercover police officer posing as a minor.
Amjad Alshameri, aged 39 and residing on Granville Street in Birmingham city centre, pleaded guilty to a charge of attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child.
He was sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court on July 11 to an 18-month community order, which includes 30 days of rehabilitation activities and 100 hours of unpaid work.
The police undercover operation involved creating a Snapchat profile for a fictional 13-year-old girl named 'Liv' with suitable photographs.
Alshameri, using the username 'Mo.Million07', made contact on April 15 and engaged in inappropriate conversation.
Prosecutor Will Dudley explained that Alshameri inquired about Liv's age and whether she liked older males.
He asked for a photograph, complimented her appearance, and showed interest in her physical attributes after sharing a gym selfie.
He also suggested that she could be a 'naughty girl' and questioned her about previous relationships and dating preferences.
During the exchange, he expressed interest in meeting her.
The judge, Peter Carr, decided to impose a community order rather than prison, citing the seriousness of the offence but noting the pre-sentence report.
Alshameri was also issued a five-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) and added to the sex offender register, underlining ongoing restrictions and monitoring.
