ALLAN CORCORAN FROM JEDBURGH FACES JAIL AFTER DISCOVERING THOUSANDS OF CHILD SEXUAL IMAGES IN SCOTLAND
In a serious case that has sent shockwaves through the community of Jedburgh, Allan Corcoran, a 26-year-old man, has been found guilty of possessing an extensive collection of indecent images and videos depicting children.The case was heard at Jedburgh Sheriff Court, where Corcoran was described as a “high-risk sex offender” due to the nature and volume of his offenses.
Corcoran pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including the possession and downloading of numerous child sexual abuse images.
The court was informed that these offenses took place within his own home on Blackhills Close in Jedburgh, spanning from October to December 2018.
Evidence presented revealed that on a single mobile phone SIM card, there were a staggering 12,347 indecent images of children, along with 1,456 movies, all meticulously organized into folders.
The images included some classified as extreme, highlighting the severity of the material involved.
Prosecutor Tessa Bradley emphasized to the court that Corcoran had been under a high level of supervision since his previous release from prison, owing to his high risk of reoffending.
The authorities acted swiftly when, on December 19, 2018, a search of Corcoran’s residence was conducted following a tip-off suggesting he was breaching the conditions of his sexual offences prevention order.
During the search, law enforcement officials discovered the mobile phone containing the illicit material.
Corcoran’s criminal history further underscores the gravity of his case.
In 2016, he was sentenced to two years in prison for downloading and distributing indecent images of children.
Additionally, he admitted to sending sexually explicit messages to a 15-year-old girl and engaging in sexual activity with her at the Pavilion Cinema in Galashiels.
These previous convictions and actions have contributed to the court’s perception of him as a significant threat.
During the hearing, Sheriff Peter Paterson acknowledged the seriousness of the offenses, stating, “These are serious offences, and that is only underlined by your previous convictions.” The court was advised that Corcoran’s case might be referred to the High Court, which has the authority to impose harsher sentences.
The judge ordered a report to be prepared before sentencing, which was deferred until May 13.
Corcoran was remanded in custody pending the sentencing hearing.
In addition to the current charges, Corcoran faces a potential lengthy prison sentence, reflecting the gravity of his actions and the danger posed to the community.
