INVERNESS MAN TOLD TO IMPROVE ATTITUDE AFTER THREATENING EX AND PESTERING HER
A man who pestered his ex-partner and made threats towards her was told he had "better make an attitude adjustment" towards women or he would face jail.Alistair Kelly (38) of Heath Grove, Inverness, appeared for sentencing after admitting to a campaign of domestic abuse against the woman. He received a 10-year ban from contacting or approaching his victim, was ordered to complete 150 hours of unpaid community work, and was placed under two years of social work supervision.
The offences occurred between May 7 and 25 of the previous year.Prosecutor Naomi Duffy-Welsh explained that Kelly and his victim had an on-and-off relationship since February 2021, ending in early 2024.
Despite her efforts to block messages and change her phone number, Kelly engaged in aggressive behavior.
He entered her property shouting, "Are you not speaking to me?" on or around May 22 or 23, displaying threatening behavior.Ms Duffy-Welsh detailed that Kelly's actions escalated to kicking a washing basket down the stairs, telling her she was lucky not to be kicked herself, and pushing her on the back during an argument.
Fleeing her home to a nearby business, she returned to find Kelly gone.
Later, Kelly called her, arguing again and issuing aggressive, intimidating comments, followed by threatening emails and phone calls, including statements like "One of us has to leave Inverness."The victim contacted the police, who arrested Kelly after he returned to her house and banged on the door.
During sentencing, Sheriff Gary Aitken warned Kelly that his behavior needed to improve and told him that if he reoffended for similar behavior, he would likely face a custodial sentence.
Kelly was told: "The problem lies with you.
If you are back in court for similar behaviour it will almost certainly result in a custodial sentence but I will give you a chance."
