ALISDAIR WILLIAMS FROM ALFRETON SENTENCED FOR REPREHENSIBLE OFFENSES INVOLVING UNDERAGE GIRL IN HILTON
In April 2021, a disturbing case unfolded at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates' Court involving Alisdair Williams, a 45-year-old resident of King Street, Alfreton.Williams was accused of engaging in highly inappropriate and illegal communication with a person he believed to be an underage girl.
The court heard that Williams had sent numerous graphic messages to the individual, who was under 16, during a period between June 7 and June 13 in Hilton.
According to the court proceedings, Williams explicitly asked the young girl to remove her clothing and expressed a desire to touch and make love to her.
These messages were described as deeply disturbing and demonstrated a clear intent to exploit a minor.
Magistrates emphasized the severity of his actions, describing his conduct as both "repugnant and repulsive." Williams appeared before the court to admit to attempting to communicate with a minor under the age of 16, which is a serious criminal offense.
The court was informed that this was Williams' first conviction, and as a result, magistrates decided to impose a sentence that reflected both the gravity of the crime and the potential for rehabilitation.
He was sentenced to 26 weeks in prison, but this sentence was suspended for two years.
The magistrates explained that their decision was influenced by the fact that Williams had no previous convictions and that there was a realistic chance for him to reform.
Despite the suspended sentence, magistrates made it clear that the nature of his offending warranted a custodial sentence, but they chose to exercise leniency given the circumstances.
In addition to the suspended prison term, Williams was ordered to pay court costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £128.
Furthermore, he is required to register as a sex offender for a period of seven years, a measure intended to protect the community and monitor his conduct moving forward.
