RORY MULCAHY'S ALFRETON CRIME: SEX OFFENDER BUSTED DRIVING 15-YEAR-OLD IN DERBYSHIRE

In a disturbing case that has raised serious concerns about the safety and oversight of convicted sex offenders, Rory Mulcahy, a 28-year-old man from Alfreton, was found to have violated a strict court order by befriending and driving a 15-year-old boy. The incident took place in Derbyshire, where Mulcahy’s actions have now led to his imprisonment.

According to court proceedings at Derby Crown Court, Mulcahy, who is married, was under a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) issued at Preston Court in October 2020. This order was part of his punishment for a previous sexual offence, the details of which were not disclosed during the recent hearing. The order explicitly prohibited him from having any unsupervised contact with individuals under the age of 18 and also forbade him from deleting his internet browsing history.

Despite these clear restrictions, Mulcahy deliberately and repeatedly breached the terms of his court order. The court heard that he befriended a 15-year-old boy and, in a clear violation of the order, took him for a drive in his car. The police investigation revealed that Mulcahy had also engaged in online misconduct by deleting messages from social media platforms, specifically Instagram and Snapchat, which he was not permitted to do under the conditions of his order.

In August of this year, authorities received credible information indicating that Mulcahy had been in the company of the underage boy. Acting on this intelligence, police officers visited Mulcahy’s residence in Alfreton and seized multiple electronic devices for examination. During the investigation, it was discovered that Mulcahy had sent Facebook messages to the 15-year-old and had taken him for a ride in his vehicle. He made full admissions during police interviews, admitting to the breaches.

Kevin Jones, prosecuting, explained that Mulcahy’s actions constituted a clear violation of the court’s order. The police found that he had deleted his online history, specifically from Instagram and Snapchat, and had engaged in direct communication with the minor. The evidence also showed that he had physically taken the boy in his car, which was a direct breach of the restrictions imposed on him.

In court, Recorder Michelle Heeley sentenced Mulcahy to 20 months in prison. She emphasized that the breaches were deliberate and persistent, though she acknowledged that Mulcahy did not act in any untoward manner towards the young man. The court’s decision underscores the importance of strict adherence to court orders designed to protect minors from potential harm.

Will Bennett, representing Mulcahy, noted that his client had pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity, which was taken into account during sentencing.
