ALFRED DILLON FROM KIRKBY SENTENCED TO 19 YEARS FOR ABUSE OF TWO GIRLS IN FRONT OF THEIR MOTHER

In a harrowing case that has shocked the community of Kirkby, Alfred Dillon, aged 65, has been sentenced to 19 years in prison for a series of heinous sexual offences committed against two young girls during the 1970s. The Liverpool Crown Court heard how Dillon targeted the vulnerable sisters, who were neglected and living in a chaotic environment, with their mother struggling with alcohol addiction.

Prosecutors detailed that Dillon’s visits to their home on Whitefield Drive involved not only drinking and casual sexual encounters with their mother but also horrific acts of molestation directed at the children. The court was told that Dillon’s abuse was particularly depraved, with one of the girls being forced to perform a sex act on him while he was engaged in sexual activity with her mother. Despite his denial of any wrongdoing, Dillon was found guilty after a trial of eight sexual offences, including indecent assault and rape.

Judge Andrew Menary, QC, delivered a stern judgment, criticizing the mother’s neglectful parenting, describing her as a “completely inadequate parent” who spent most of her time intoxicated. The judge emphasized that the girls’ lives were already tumultuous, and Dillon’s entrance into their world only compounded their suffering. He stated, “These girls were utterly neglected and into their already chaotic lives, their mum brought you.”

The judge recounted the disturbing details of Dillon’s violence towards the mother, including beatings and threats made in front of the children. When not engaging in sex with their semi-conscious mother, Dillon would sometimes turn his attention to the girls, subjecting them to acts that the court described as beyond depraved. One particularly distressing incident involved Dillon calling at the house when the mother was out and raping one of the victims.

Judge Menary recounted the victim’s memories, including the smell of alcohol and Dillon’s sneering face. Dillon’s threats to the girls were chilling; he told them that if they told anyone, their mother would die, and they would be taken into care. The girls, who had no one to trust—no adequate mother, family, or teachers—kept these dark secrets hidden for over four decades. The trauma left deep scars, with one sister suffering from severe depression, attempting suicide, and undergoing 16 sessions of electroconvulsive therapy to manage her daily life.

Prosecutor Martine Snowdon described how the victim’s life was forever altered by Dillon’s sadistic actions, stating, “She describes her life being changed forever at the hands of a sadistic and perverted monster.” The victim expressed that Dillon’s imprisonment would not undo the pain, saying, “if he goes to prison it doesn’t matter for how long, because he will never be imprisoned for as long as I have.”

The other sister also shared her suffering, revealing that she struggled with trust issues, had difficulty forming healthy relationships, and developed an eating disorder. She experienced nightmares and flashbacks, feeling “very damaged,” and described Dillon’s enjoyment in instilling fear and pain in them, often laughing and carrying on despite their pleas for him to stop.

Defending Dillon, Sarah Holt claimed that her client, who has prior convictions for violence and dishonesty, maintains his innocence. However, Judge Menary expressed concern over Dillon’s history and behavior, ruling that he must serve an extended year on license after his release. Dillon will spend at least half of his sentence incarcerated and will only be eligible for parole if the authorities determine he no longer poses a risk to the public.

Furthermore, Dillon was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for life. As he was led away to begin his sentence, Dillon shouted “only God knows,” while a daughter in the public gallery called out, “Dad I love you, Dad I believe you,” highlighting the complex and emotional reactions to this tragic case.
