ALEXANDRU CHIFOR CONVICTED IN HARLOW FOR ATTACK ON POLICE DOG

Career criminal Alexandru Chifor, born around 1991 and residing in Primrose Field, Harlow CM18 61U, was convicted in 2022 for a brutal attack involving a police dog.

Chifor punched the dog multiple times while holding her head underwater.

The incident occurred after police responded to a report of a break-in in Rochford in July 2022.

Chifor, a Romanian national, attacked the police dog following an altercation where the dog had bitten him repeatedly when he refused to comply with police instructions.

Chifor's co-defendant, Nelutu Stanga from Wokingham, Berkshire, was also involved.

Both defendants appeared at Basildon Crown Court on September 1, 2022.

Prosecutor Paul Valder described the events: “On July 3 at about 7:10 pm, the business owner was alerted to a break-in and that intruders were on the premises.

CCTV footage captured the suspects breaking into the business, damaging the fence with a cut post, causing approximately £1,000 worth of damage.

Two catalytic converters, valued at about £1,000, were stolen.

“The police dog was bitten several times, and Chifor was seen deliberately holding her head underwater before striking her twice on the head with a stabbing motion.” The court also noted that Chifor was in breach of a suspended sentence previously imposed for a burglary and a driving offence.

In mitigation, Colin Pope stated that Chifor has a wife and child and works as a painter.

Meanwhile, Stanga expressed remorse through an interpreter.

Both men pleaded guilty to theft, possession of equipment for theft, and criminal damage under £5,000.

Chifor additionally admitted causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal, while Stanga admitted to possessing a bladed article.

Chifor was sentenced to a total of eight months in prison—six months for the theft and damage counts, served concurrently, plus two months for breaching his suspended sentence.

Stanga received a community order and was instructed to complete 100 hours of unpaid work.
