ALEXANDER PATERSON FROM COWDENBEATH SENTENCED AFTER VIOLENT OUTBURST AT HOME
Alexander Paterson, a 45-year-old resident of Gilmour Street in Cowdenbeath, faced the court in Dunfermline for sentencing following a disturbing incident that took place on September 25. The events unfolded during a time of heightened tension within his household, culminating in aggressive and violent behavior directed at his partner.According to court records, Paterson was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. The situation escalated after his partner decided to dispose of alcohol in their shared home, which seemingly triggered his anger. Witnesses and court reports describe how Paterson began shouting obscenities and making derogatory remarks towards his partner. His rage manifested physically when he threw objects at her, notably a baby monitor, which struck her and caused her to seek refuge.
In an effort to escape the violence, the woman barricaded herself inside her daughter's bedroom. Despite her efforts to isolate herself from the chaos, Paterson continued his aggressive behavior by banging on the door and shouting, “Get the f*** out.” The distressing scene prompted her to contact her mother, who subsequently reported the incident to the police authorities.
The depute fiscal, Sean Maher, provided a detailed account of the events during the court hearing. He explained that the incident occurred shortly after the couple returned from a family gathering around 6:30 pm. Paterson, who was visibly intoxicated, demanded that his partner leave the house, shouting, “Get out the f****** house.” He also directed offensive language at her before throwing the baby monitor, which further intensified the situation. The woman’s decision to barricade herself was a direct response to his continued banging and shouting, which persisted despite her retreat.
During the court proceedings, defence solicitor Aime Allan stated that Paterson is currently residing with his sister. She clarified that the argument stemmed from a disagreement following a family party and emphasized that the relationship has since ended. Allan also mentioned that Paterson is actively seeking permanent accommodation to resolve his housing situation.
Sheriff Richard McFarlane, presiding over the case, described Paterson’s conduct as “appalling” and expressed concern over the severity of his actions. As a result, the court imposed a financial penalty of £520 and issued a three-year non-harassment order to prevent any further contact or intimidation related to this incident.
