ALEXANDER GLICKBERG'S SHAMEFUL CRIMES IN SUTTON: SERIAL SEX OFFENDER LOCKED UP
In a case that has shocked the local community of Sutton, Alexander Glickberg, a 72-year-old man with a long history of lewd and inappropriate behaviour, has been formally detained in a secure hospital facility following a series of disturbing incidents involving public exposure.Glickberg’s troubling pattern of behaviour includes multiple convictions for exposing himself to others, notably including children, on various buses throughout the area. His actions have been described as persistent and indiscriminate, highlighting a deeply ingrained pattern of sexual misconduct that has persisted over the years.
The most recent incident occurred in September 2009, when Glickberg approached a fellow bus passenger and offered her £25 in exchange for sex. When she refused his proposition, he responded by exposing himself to her, an act that further exemplifies his troubling tendencies. This incident added to his already extensive criminal record, which is marked by numerous convictions for similar lewd acts.
Glickberg, who resides on Carshalton Road in Sutton, has so many convictions for lewd behaviour that during his sentencing at Croydon Crown Court on a Friday, the judge chose not to read out the full list of previous offences, underscoring the severity and frequency of his misconduct.
During police interviews, Glickberg admitted that he felt “disappointed” if he did not elicit a reaction from his victims, revealing a disturbing aspect of his psychological profile. He also expressed frustration, stating, “I have asked for help and it has not been given,” indicating a possible awareness of his problematic behaviour but a failure to seek or receive effective intervention.
Following psychiatric assessments, Judge Simon Pratt addressed the court, stating that all parties involved agreed that Glickberg suffers from a mental disorder. The judge described him as an “entrenched and indiscriminate sexual offender,” emphasizing that he habitually exposes himself whenever the opportunity arises. The court was told that his behaviour is unstoppable and that he poses a significant risk of causing psychological harm to others.
As a result of these findings, the judge ordered that Glickberg be detained in a hospital for treatment and imposed a lifelong requirement to register as a sex offender. Additionally, restrictions were placed on his use of public transport, prohibiting him from traveling between 7am and 9.30am, and from 3pm to 5pm unless accompanied by a supervising adult, in an effort to prevent further incidents and protect the community.
