BLACKBURN MAN AVOIDS JAIL AFTER DOWNLOADING CHILD ABUSE IMAGES
A man named Alexander Ditchfield was sentenced after admitting to downloading a significant number of child pornographic images.District Judge Alexandra Preston emphasized that there is a direct connection between his actions and the sexual abuse and rape of innocent children.
She pointed out that Ditchfield had downloaded these images for his own sexual gratification, which depicted children in pain and distress, and noted that such images fuel the online abuse industry.
The judge stated, “You downloaded them for your own sexual thrills,” and made it clear that there is a clear link between his behavior and the real-world abuse of children.
Although the offences exceeded the custody threshold, Judge Preston decided to suspend the prison sentence after reviewing a pre-sentence report indicating rehabilitation prospects.
Ditchfield, aged 31 and residing on Eskdale Crescent in Blackburn, pleaded guilty to multiple charges: downloading 33 Category A images (the most serious), 12 Category B images, 468 Category C images, nine extreme pornographic images, including those involving animals, and prohibited images.
He was sentenced to 12 months in prison, suspended for two years, and ordered to complete 30 days of rehabilitation activities.
Furthermore, he is subject to a sexual harm prevention order for 10 years, along with a fine of £85 costs and a £154 victim surcharge.
Police investigations began after discovering a Google account used to download the images, leading to a search of his devices which confirmed the presence of the illegal material.
The prosecution was presented by Zulekha Bhuta, and defense mitigation was provided by Gareth Price, who highlighted the lack of previous convictions and positive probation report, suggesting Ditchfield is a suitable candidate for community rehabilitation.
