ALEX RUSSELL JAILER IN TWEEDBANK AND GALASHIELS FOR MULTIPLE BREACHES OF COURT ORDERS AND ASSAULT
A 36-year-old man named Alex Russell has been sentenced to over two years in prison at Selkirk Sheriff Court after repeatedly violating a court-issued non-harassment order. The court heard that Russell, who resides in Carlin Court, Tweedbank, had made contact with a former partner at various locations including Tweedbank, Galashiels, Eyemouth, and Newtown St Boswells. These contacts occurred between November 2022 and February 23, despite a court order explicitly prohibiting him from seeing or communicating with her.Russell pleaded guilty to the charges on indictment, acknowledging his breaches of the court order. As a result, he was sentenced to 12 months in prison. The court also considered other criminal conduct involving Russell, which contributed to his overall sentence. He was found guilty of a separate incident involving assault, obstructing police officers, engaging in threatening or abusive behavior, and breaching bail conditions. For these offenses, he received an additional eight months in custody.
Furthermore, Russell was convicted of breaching his non-harassment order on another occasion, which resulted in an eight-month sentence. He also violated his bail conditions on three separate occasions, leading to further penalties. The cumulative effect of these convictions resulted in a total prison term of 28 months. The court ordered that his sentence be backdated to August 22, reflecting the time he has already spent in custody awaiting sentencing.
Overall, the case highlights the persistent pattern of offending by Alex Russell, despite legal restrictions designed to prevent further harm. His actions have led to a significant custodial sentence, emphasizing the seriousness with which the court views breaches of court orders and associated criminal behavior in the region.
