ALED ROBERTS FROM NEATH EXPOSES HIMSELF TO SCHOOLGIRLS IN SWANSEA AND NEATH

Aled Roberts, a 33-year-old man from Neath, has been convicted of multiple incidents involving public indecency directed at schoolgirls in Swansea. Over the course of three separate days in February and March this year, Roberts engaged in disturbing behavior by driving his vehicle alongside young girls as they made their way home from school, and then exposing himself in a highly inappropriate manner.

During each encounter, the victims reported that a grey Renault car would pull up next to them, causing alarm and distress. On one particular occasion, the court heard that Roberts wound down his window and addressed the girls with a casual yet sinister remark, saying, “Hey girls.” At that moment, he was wearing a grey jumper, and his trousers were pulled down, revealing his genitals as he performed a sex act. After this act, Roberts quickly closed his window and drove away, leaving the victims shaken and disturbed.

The pattern of his offending did not stop there. On two additional occasions, Roberts was observed engaging in similar behavior, staring directly at the young girls and exposing himself once again. The police investigation was able to identify Roberts after CCTV footage captured his vehicle’s registration plate. This evidence proved crucial in tracking down the suspect.

Roberts was arrested on March 17. When questioned, he responded to police cautions with a dismissive remark, saying, “Are you serious?” During the subsequent interview, Roberts chose to remain silent, offering no comment to the questions posed by officers. Despite this, he later pleaded guilty to three counts of exposure in court.

It was revealed that Roberts has a prior conviction for exposure, for which he was given a community order. His current residence is listed as Wellfield Square, Neath. His legal representative, Hannah Friedman, argued that Roberts’s actions might be partly attributed to his ADHD, which she described as making him “stupidly impulsive,” leading him to act without considering the consequences. Friedman also mentioned that Roberts had previously worked in mental health support but later found employment at a bakery and a takeaway restaurant. She emphasized that Roberts “hates himself” and is deeply remorseful, often reflecting on his actions.

During sentencing, Recorder Greg Bull KC expressed concern over Roberts’s lack of understanding of the harm caused to the young girls. The judge warned that without appropriate treatment, Roberts could pose a continued danger to children. As a result, Roberts was sentenced to 12 months in prison. Additionally, he was ordered to comply with sex offender notification requirements for the next ten years, underscoring the seriousness of his offenses and the potential risk he poses to the community.
