ALAN WILLIAMS FROM FRASERBURGH SENTENCED FOR RAPE IN MERSEYSIDE
In a disturbing case that unfolded across the border from Aberdeenshire to Merseyside, Alan Williams, a 44-year-old man from Fraserburgh, was found guilty of heinous sexual offenses against a young girl. The incident took place in her mother’s house in Merseyside, where Williams had been temporarily staying at the time. The victim, a vulnerable 13-year-old girl, was subjected to a traumatic assault within her own home. According to court proceedings, she initially tried to pretend she was asleep when Williams began molesting her on a sofa. Despite her efforts to remain unnoticed, Williams proceeded to rape her. The girl, overwhelmed and terrified, managed to escape by fleeing upstairs and then making a desperate attempt to get away from her attacker.
She ran out of her house, shoeless and dressed only in socks, a pyjama top, and bottoms, tears streaming down her face. Her destination was her grandmother’s residence, where she sought refuge in a state of distress. Her grandmother, upon noticing her granddaughter’s condition, immediately reported her missing to the police. During the search, authorities checked her mother’s house and encountered Williams, who was present at the time.
Approximately 30 hours after her disappearance, the girl reappeared at her grandmother’s home, visibly upset and crying. She disclosed to her grandmother and later to police that Williams had touched her “all over” and had raped her. The prosecution presented evidence including DNA analysis, which confirmed Williams’s involvement. Despite denying the allegations, claiming he had done nothing wrong and insisting he would not harm someone who did not want to be touched, the jury found him guilty on all counts after a swift deliberation of just over an hour.
During the trial, Williams did not give evidence or provide any explanation for his actions. The court heard that the girl had sustained injuries consistent with sexual assault, further corroborating her account. The judge, Robert Trevor-Jones, expressed that Williams could have received a reduced sentence had he pleaded guilty, thus sparing the girl from the ordeal of testifying.
In his sentencing remarks, Judge Trevor-Jones highlighted the severity of the crime. He described how the girl was trying to reconnect with her mother, who had gone off the radar, leaving her stranded and vulnerable. It was during this vulnerable moment that Williams took advantage of her trust and youth. The judge emphasized that the assault occurred in her own home, adding to the gravity of the offense. The girl was forced to escape by climbing out of the bathroom window and sliding down a drainpipe to reach her grandmother’s house, a harrowing ordeal that underscored the brutality of the attack.
For his crimes, Alan Williams was sentenced to 11 years in prison. Additionally, he was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities. The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of safeguarding vulnerable individuals and the devastating impact of sexual violence.
