ALAN JENKINSON CAUGHT IN BURY PAEDOPHILE STING: SHOCKING ONLINE PREDATOR EXPOSED

In October 2018, a disturbing case unfolded in Bury involving a man who was caught in a covert operation by paedophile hunting groups. Alan Jenkinson, a 57-year-old security guard and grandfather of three, became the focus of a sting operation after he engaged in explicit online exchanges with what he believed was a 13-year-old girl.

Jenkinson’s actions were deeply troubling. Over the course of five days in April, he sent the fake profile hundreds of sexually explicit messages, including photographs and videos. Among these were images of him pleasuring himself and arrangements of sex toys displayed on his bed at his home in Bury. One particularly alarming video showed Jenkinson himself masturbating, further illustrating his intent and state of mind.

He also sent a contract to the fictitious girl, in which he explicitly gave her permission to lose her virginity to him. The contract stated: “I give Alan Jenkinson consent to teach me everything he knows about the game of life,” and required her to submit to his instruction about boys and men. Such documents and messages represented a gross violation of personal rights and demonstrated a clear intent to groom and sexually exploit a minor.

During the exchanges, Jenkinson instructed the girl to obtain contraception and warned her not to tell her mother, threatening her if she disclosed their communications to anyone. His behavior was part of a pattern of grooming aimed at manipulating a young girl for sexual purposes.

Members of the paedophile hunting group, known as Keeping Kids Safe, acted swiftly after receiving information about Jenkinson’s activities. They confronted him at his residence in Bury, calling in the police to handle the situation. The group’s intervention was captured on video and live-streamed to a small online audience, highlighting the seriousness of the case.

Following the confrontation, Jenkinson was arrested. During police interviews, he bizarrely claimed that he knew the profile was fake and suggested that his intent was to draw out the person behind it. However, the evidence presented in court painted a different picture. Prosecutor Nigel Booth detailed that Jenkinson had sent numerous sexually explicit messages, including images of sex toys and videos, and had even ordered the girl to get contraception, emphasizing his predatory intentions.

Judge John Potter addressed the court, condemning Jenkinson’s actions. He stated, “In effect you were sent material by a fictitious profile created by someone who works with an organisation set up to catch those like you who have a sexual interest in children and using social media first to groom children and then to encourage them to send or receive sexually explicit material and thereafter to meet children for the purposes of sexually abusing them.”

The judge further emphasized that Jenkinson’s conduct demonstrated a desire to control, groom, and ultimately sexually abuse a female child for his own gratification. He warned that Jenkinson posed a significant risk of causing serious harm to children.

In light of his actions, Jenkinson was sentenced to 18 months in prison. Additionally, he was placed on the sex offenders’ register and subjected to a sexual harm prevention order, both for a period of ten years. Jenkinson, who resides on Heywood Street in Bury, denied three charges—attempting to make a child watch a sexually explicit video, attempting to communicate sexually with a child, and attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity—but was convicted after a trial.

During the trial, the court heard that Jenkinson had a history of depression, having been treated for it for 20 years. His background included working as a welder before transitioning into the security industry in 2015, with aspirations of becoming a maritime security guard.

The organisation responsible for catching Jenkinson, Keeping Kids Safe, reports that it has been involved in over 300 similar cases. Following his conviction, the group live-streamed the sting operation, showing Jenkinson’s confrontation at his home before police arrived. Initially, Jenkinson denied being a “sexual predator,” but later admitted that “something was wrong up there,” indicating issues with his mental state.

Members of the paedophile hunting team, known as Angels of Innocence, explained that their operation involved posing as children online to catch predators like Jenkinson. The court was informed that the child involved in the case was actually an adult member of the team, emphasizing the importance of these vigilant efforts to protect vulnerable individuals from exploitation.
