ALAN HOLT FROM RADCLIFFE SENTENCED FOR BRUTAL ATTACK ON PARTNER AND DOGS IN MANCHESTER
Alan James Holt, a resident of Five Quarters in Radcliffe, Manchester, born around 1956, was convicted of a series of violent offences that shocked the local community.The incidents took place during a domestic violence episode fueled by alcohol, which culminated in Holt viciously attacking both his partner and her pet dogs.
According to court reports, Holt's rage erupted after a drinking session, leading him to assault his partner physically.
The violence extended beyond just her, as Holt also directed his fury towards her two dogs, causing severe injuries.
One of the animals, a Staffordshire cross breed named Rogue, sustained scratches across its torso, while the other, named Zeta, suffered a grievous injury when Holt kicked her in the head, resulting in the loss of two of her front teeth.
The assault on Holt’s partner was equally brutal.
She endured swelling and bruising to her face, along with bruises on her arm, stomach, and back.
The severity of her injuries was documented in court, with photographs showing her severe facial bruising and evidence of strangulation, which left her feeling as if she might have been close to death at that moment.
Holt pleaded guilty to charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm (ABH) and two counts of causing unnecessary suffering to animals.
It was revealed that he was already serving a community order for a previous incident involving ABH, indicating a pattern of violent behavior.
During the sentencing hearing, District Judge Jack McGarva condemned Holt’s actions, describing the offences as “appalling.” The judge emphasized the gravity of the injuries inflicted, noting the severe bruising on Holt’s partner and the fact that Holt had strangled her, an act considered particularly heinous in the context of domestic violence.
The judge also pointed out the helplessness of the dogs, which could not defend themselves or report the abuse.
In terms of punishment, Holt was sentenced to 26 weeks in prison for the recent offences.
Additionally, he received a re-sentence of 12 weeks, to run consecutively, for his previous incident, bringing the total custodial time to 38 weeks.
Notably, the court did not impose any ban on Holt owning animals in the future, despite the cruelty involved in the attacks.
This case has garnered significant attention in the Manchester area, highlighting ongoing concerns about domestic violence and animal cruelty in Radcliffe and beyond.
