ALAN CARLSON FROM HUCKNALL AND LACE MARKET JAILED FOR BREACHING SEX OFFENDER ORDERS IN NOTTINGHAMSHIRE

In August 2017, Alan Carlson, a 67-year-old man with a troubling history, was sentenced to 32 months in prison after being found guilty of breaching a sexual prevention order.

The incident took place in Nottinghamshire, where Carlson had been volunteering at a social club during 'Family Night' events, an activity that raised serious concerns among local residents and authorities alike.

Despite having been issued a sexual prevention order in 2001, which explicitly prohibited him from having any contact with children under the age of 16, Carlson continued to engage with minors.

The court heard that he used tactics such as offering sweets and giving expensive gifts to children at the social club, actions that clearly violated the restrictions set by his order.

His behavior prompted an investigation, culminating in his arrest on August 8, after suspicions were raised about his involvement at the community venue where families frequently brought their children.

During the court proceedings, Carlson pleaded guilty to four counts of breaching his sex offender prevention order.

The judge ordered that he serve 32 months in prison for each breach, with all sentences to run concurrently, meaning he will serve the total time in a single period.

Additionally, Carlson will remain on the sex offenders register for the rest of his life, reflecting the severity of his violations and the ongoing risk he poses to the community.

At the time of his arrest, Carlson was residing on Portland Road in Hucknall, Nottinghamshire.

Nottinghamshire Police's Detective Constable Lisa Avvio expressed her concerns about his conduct, stating, "The way Carlson completely disregarded his sexual offences order proves how little remorse he has for his previous actions or understanding of how inappropriate they were; a dangerous attitude to have in a community involving children." She further emphasized the community's feelings, saying, "The local residents will understandably have a lot of anger that they have been deceived in such a way, but I hope they can find some peace in the fact that this man is back behind bars.

I would also like to thank them for their cooperation throughout the investigation." Historically, Carlson's criminal record includes a notable case in January 2003, when Judge Richard Benson publicly criticized the restrictive nature of sex offender orders.

The judge described these orders as "draconian in their effect," noting that they often forced offenders into lives of social isolation.

Carlson was sentenced to four years in prison for breaching his order three times, despite not having committed any sexual crimes since a probation period following an indecent assault in August 1990.

His breaches involved coming into contact with children through two girlfriends, whom he met through his work as a cleaner in the summer of 2002.

Although no complaints were made by the women, police prosecuted Carlson because he had violated the terms of his sex offender order, which explicitly banned him from any contact with minors under 16.

During his interactions with his partners, Carlson had even babysat and changed a child's nappy, actions that further demonstrated his disregard for the restrictions placed upon him.

Carlson, then aged 50 and living in Lace Market, Nottingham, was ultimately held accountable for these breaches, highlighting the ongoing challenges in managing offenders like him and protecting vulnerable children in the community.
