COWDENBEATH PERVERT AIDAN STRAWN SENTENCED FOR HORRIFIC CHILD ABUSE IMAGES AND ONLINE GROOMING
In August 2017, a disturbing case emerged involving Aidan Strawn, a resident of Cowdenbeath, who was convicted of possessing some of the most heinous images ever encountered by law enforcement authorities.The investigation uncovered that Strawn had downloaded over 2,500 indecent images and videos depicting the systematic and graphic abuse of young children, including extremely disturbing content such as adults engaging in sexual acts with babies.
The severity of the material found on his electronic devices prompted immediate concern from investigators, who described the images as among the worst ever seen by the Crown's specialized unit.
Sheriff Craig McSherry, presiding over the case at Dunfermline Sheriff Court, expressed his condemnation, stating, “These were some of the worst images ever seen by the Crown officers in the unit which deals with these cases.
I take the view you are an extremely dangerous person.” Furthermore, the court heard that Strawn had engaged in online grooming activities, targeting a 14-year-old schoolgirl.
Over a period from October 26, 2014, to August 24, 2015, he exchanged numerous sexually explicit messages with her, including sending her a sexual image, requesting naked photographs, and attempting to arrange a physical meeting for sexual activity.
Strawn also asked her if she would be willing to participate in a threesome involving himself, the girl, and a nine-year-old child, revealing his depraved intentions.
The investigation revealed that between November 1 and November 30, 2014, Strawn had sent written sexual communications to the young girl, further emphasizing his predatory behavior.
He admitted to downloading indecent images of children during the period from October 26, 2014, to August 24, 2015, and to distributing or showing such images between April 6 and August 24, 2015.
Police inquiries began in August 2015 after intelligence suggested that an indecent image of a child had been uploaded online.
Authorities traced the upload back to Strawn, who consented to a search of his laptop and mobile phone.
Forensic analysis of his devices uncovered a staggering collection of over 2,400 indecent images and 124 videos, many depicting the sexual abuse of infants by adults.
The investigation also revealed that 178 images had been shared with others via chat logs, further illustrating the extent of his involvement in the distribution of such material.
During the court proceedings, it was revealed that Strawn’s communications with the 14-year-old girl included explicit requests to see her naked and expressed a desire to meet her in Edinburgh.
His disturbing propositions extended to involving a nine-year-old in a sexual act, highlighting the dangerous nature of his predatory behavior.
In sentencing, Sheriff Craig McSherry described Strawn as a significant threat to public safety, especially to young people.
The court sentenced him to three years and nine months in prison.
Additionally, to ensure ongoing protection of the community, the sheriff imposed an extended sentence of two years following his release.
Strawn was also placed on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely, marking the seriousness with which the court viewed his crimes and the potential risk he posed to society.
