ILFORD MAN SENTENCED TO LIFE FOR BRUTAL MURDER OF PARTNER
A tumultuous relationship that culminated in a man stabbing his partner to death had prompted police to respond to their residence more than ten times due to violent disputes.A 34-year-old man, Afzal Hussain, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for murder and is mandated to serve a minimum of 15 and a half years.
He killed his 30-year-old partner, Carmen Stanescu, in a violent assault at their home on Charles Church Walk, Ilford, while their two-year-old daughter was asleep upstairs.
Following the attack, Hussain contacted one of his brothers in tears during the early hours, saying, “I’ve done something terrible.” However, police only arrived later that day after worried family members visited the home and discovered Carmen lying in a pool of blood, with injuries to her neck, arms, and hands.
The fatal wound had severed her jugular vein.
Judge William Kennedy remarked that the fact that their young daughter was present during the attack and Carmen’s vulnerability were aggravating factors, highlighting that she seemed to love and support Hussain.
Hussain and Carmen had been together for thirteen years before the incident occurred around 1 a.m.
on March 12 of this year.
Prosecutor Peter Wright QC stated that their relationship was notably volatile, largely due to Hussain’s alcohol consumption.
The police had been called over ten times before the murder due to domestic disputes.
Hussain pleaded guilty to murder last week.
