A man received an 18-year prison sentence after being convicted of the murder of his wife in Ilford, located in east London.Muhammad Ilyas, aged 41 and residing on Kingston Road, committed the murder of Maria Rafael Chavez on May 13, 2021.
Emergency services responded to the scene shortly after but found that the 32-year-old woman had already died.

Although he initially denied involvement, subsequent evidence from the post-mortem, a pathology report, and CCTV footage confirmed his guilt.
He was sentenced at the Old Bailey on July 1.

Meanwhile, Ilyas was employed at a market stall in Stratford.
