INVERNESS MAN GUILTY OF TEEN SEXUAL ASSAULT IN ALLEYWAY
A man has been found guilty of sexually assaulting a teenager in an Inverness alleyway.Adriano Leo Mouzinho, aged 39, was accused of grabbing a woman by the wrists and pressing his body against hers while making moaning noises.
He also attempted to put his hands down her trousers, but the victim managed to fend him off and escape.
Mouzinho denied the charge of sexual assault at Inverness Sheriff Court, claiming he only held the woman's hands and did not rub his body against her or attempt to touch her over or under her clothes.
The trial involved the now 19-year-old woman describing how the incident occurred on the evening of September 26 last year along Millburn Road.
She recounted: “He appeared and he grabbed my wrist, he spun himself around and started rubbing his body onto me.” She further explained that Mouzinho tried to go further by attempting to touch her private area, saying, “He tried to put his hand down my jeans, I shrugged my hardest to try and get him off me.” She added that during the assault, Mouzinho was making noises akin to sex noises and moaning.
Despite her resistance, she eventually managed to escape and described feeling “shocked” and “scared” afterward, noting that Mouzinho apologized repeatedly, saying “sorry, sorry, sorry”, indicating he knew he did wrong.
A second witness, who was with her immediately after the incident, observed her demeanor change and noted she started crying and appeared distressed.
Mouzinho, from Braid Square, Glasgow, testified in his defense that he only held her hands.
However, Sheriff David Harvie rejected Mouzinho’s version of events and found him guilty of sexual assault.
The court ordered a social work report and deferred sentencing to the following month, but in the meantime, Mouzinho was released on bail and immediately placed on the sex offenders’ register.
