ADRIAN HOBDAY'S BRUTAL VIOLENCE IN COVENTRY: A SHOCKING CASE OF DOMESTIC ABUSE AND REPEATED OFFENSES

Adrian Hobday, a 29-year-old man residing on Hermes Crescent in Henley, Coventry, has been found guilty of a series of violent and disturbing offenses directed at a former partner. The court proceedings revealed a pattern of brutality and aggression that spanned several incidents, highlighting Hobday's dangerous propensity for violence.

During the trial, the judge described Hobday as possessing an “outrageous propensity for violence,” emphasizing the severity of his actions. One of the most heinous acts involved Hobday sinking his teeth into his ex-girlfriend’s cheek, an attack that the judge compared to a gruesome scene from Martin Scorsese's film Cape Fear. This particular assault was not an isolated event but part of a broader pattern of physical abuse, which also included kicking her repeatedly and leaving visible bruises on her legs.

The court was told that the violence escalated following the end of their four-month relationship, which itself was marred by prior incidents. Prosecutor Lucinda Wilmott-Lascelles explained that the breakup was triggered after Hobday assaulted the woman’s daughter. The situation worsened when Hobday appeared at her home in Nuneaton during the early hours, shouting threats, throwing objects, smashing a window, and ultimately forcing his way inside by climbing through the window. During this intrusion, Hobday cut his wrist, adding a further element of danger to the confrontation.

Once inside, Hobday’s violence intensified. He physically grabbed the woman by the neck, pinning her against the wall and attempting to strangle her. In a further act of brutality, he bit her face, causing a skin wound. The attack did not stop there; Hobday also directed his aggression towards her nine-year-old daughter, kicking her legs and issuing threats, creating a terrifying environment for the child. The victim managed to escape the assault and call the police, which led to Hobday’s immediate arrest.

Although Hobday admitted to breaking a window during the incident, he denied assaulting his partner. It was also revealed that he had previous convictions for violence and was on licence from a two-year sentence for inflicting grievous bodily harm at the time of the latest attack. The court heard that Hobday’s history of violence made his actions even more concerning.

Judge Peter Cooke sentenced Hobday to three years and two months in prison. In his remarks, the judge condemned the use of violence, especially against women and children, stating, “The court has to deal with a huge variety of offences and offenders. I don’t regard any class of criminal as being as contemptible as the men who use their greater physical strength to do harm to the women in their lives.” He further emphasized that Hobday’s method of breaking into a home and assaulting a woman in front of her child was “beneath contempt,” underscoring the seriousness with which the court viewed his actions and the need for strict punishment to serve as a deterrent against such violent behavior.
