ADAM LEWIS FROM MORETON: HORRIFIC MURDER OF HANNAH WINDSOR IN WIRRAL AND PAST CHILD ABUSE CLAIMS
In December 2012, the tragic case of Hannah Windsor's murder shocked the community and drew widespread attention to the disturbing history of her killer, Adam Lewis. The 18-year-old from Moreton was convicted and sentenced to a minimum of 22 years in prison for the brutal murder of his on-and-off girlfriend, Hannah, whose semi-naked body was discovered at a scenic spot on Wirral. The details of the crime revealed a horrifying sequence of events, including Lewis tying Hannah to a tree, inflicting injuries with a knife, and ultimately strangling her with a rope. What has added a layer of complexity and outrage to this case is the revelation that Lewis was previously under suspicion for child abuse. The Wirral News has reported that several years prior to the murder, Merseyside police had received reports concerning two alleged sexual assaults committed by Lewis against young children. These reports prompted an investigation, and a case file was forwarded to the Crown Prosecution Service. However, authorities decided not to pursue charges due to what they described as insufficient evidence, a decision that has since been heavily criticized.
A family member of a four-year-old girl, who was allegedly assaulted by Lewis, expressed their frustration and anger over the police’s handling of the case. They stated, “I know that Lewis touched her. Girls aged four don’t lie, do they? It makes me so angry to think that nothing was done, especially after what happened to Hannah. If he had been charged over this then maybe she would still be here. You just don’t know.”
In addition to the initial report, a second complaint was made, also alleging indecent assault on a child. Despite these serious allegations, police officials maintained that they conducted thorough investigations. A police spokesperson explained, “Both allegations were thoroughly investigated and a file was prepared and submitted to the Crown Prosecution Service. The CPS considered the file and decided there was insufficient evidence to provide a realistic prospect of conviction and no further action was taken.”
Lewis’s background was also discussed during the trial at Liverpool Crown Court. It was revealed that he had experienced significant difficulties growing up, with reports indicating he had been known to mental health services since the age of seven. Medical assessments suggested that Lewis’s mental age was comparable to that of a nine or ten-year-old, which may have contributed to his behavior.
Hannah Windsor’s sister, Donna, aged 26, spoke out about her feelings towards Lewis and the case. She described him as “a sick and twisted individual” and expressed her disappointment that the allegations of child abuse had not been fully addressed earlier. Donna added, “Nothing will ever bring Hannah back, we just have to be thankful that he will be in jail for years to come and that other girls will be safe.”
In the wake of these revelations, authorities are now reviewing the case to determine whether social services had adequate contact with Lewis and if any systemic failures contributed to the tragic outcome. The community continues to mourn Hannah’s loss, while also grappling with the disturbing history that surrounds her killer.
