TEENAGER ASSAULTED BRUTALLY BY BOYFRIEND ON NEW YEAR'S EVE
A teenager, Chloe Parkes, needed 54 stitches after a brutal attack by her boyfriend, Adam Kopicka, in a New Year's Eve row.The assault involved Kopicka smashing a glass into her face, hands, arms, and head outside a pub, then strangling her and biting her fingers.
The incident happened shortly after midnight on January 1 this year.
Chloe described the attack as a frightening experience, saying, "I worried about what he would do but I never thought he would attack me with a glass." She also recounted her night saying, "At first I didn't go out – even though I know he is in jail I worry he could be there, but now I can finally go out with my mum because I feel safe again.
I still have nightmares about that night." The injuries resulted in wounds to her right arm, fingers, wrist, head, and ear, with doctors informing her that she may never regain full sensation in her hand.
Chloe was hospitalized for four days and was unable to work or study, although she plans to return to college in September to study childcare.
Kopicka was sentenced to nine-and-a-half years in prison for the attack.
During the sentencing, Judge Timothy Stead described Kopicka's actions as a sustained and violent attack, noting that he used a weapon, which increased his culpability.
Kopicka initially denied section 18 wounding with intent but changed his plea to guilty when the trial was set to begin.
He shouted insults at the judge, but the court proceeded with the sentence.
Chloe expressed satisfaction with the sentence, saying, "I'm happy with the sentence, I was expecting shorter so I am very happy he has got a long time."
