EX-POLICE OFFICER FROM WIGAN HANDED SUSPENSION FOR ABUSIVE BEHAVIOUR TOWARDS PARTNER
A former officer from Greater Manchester has faced serious repercussions after being convicted of engaging in 'cruel, coercive, and violent conduct' towards her partner.
Abigail Barlow, 32, resigned from the Greater Manchester Police shortly after her sentencing by magistrates.
The police force confirmed that a misconduct hearing found her behaviour to constitute gross misconduct.
Barlow had joined GMP in 2018 but left her position on January 20 of that year.
Chief Constable Stephen Watson criticised her actions, calling them 'morally reprehensible' and noting they caused significant psychological harm to her partner.
The offences, which Barlow admitted to, occurred over a period from June 2016 to October 2020 and included emotional abuse and violence.
She was sentenced to 26 weeks suspended for two years, along with 30 days of rehabilitation, 200 hours of unpaid work, and a restraining order issued by Mold Magistrates Court on July 10.
The Chief Constable underscored that her actions violated the professional standards expected of police officers and emphasised that such conduct undermines public confidence.
Had she still been employed, she would have faced dismissal, and she has now been placed on the College of Policing Barred List due to her criminal behaviour.
