ABDU WAHAB JAILED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT IN COVENTRY
A taxi driver from Coventry has been sentenced to prison after being found guilty of sexually assaulting a female passenger during a ride in the city. Abdul Wahab, aged 47, was convicted earlier this year for an incident that took place in December 2022 within Coventry city limits.According to reports, Wahab was hired by a woman to drive her home following a night out in Coventry city centre. The journey, which should have been a routine trip, took a disturbing turn when Wahab stopped the vehicle and then entered the back seat, where he proceeded to sexually assault the woman. The assault occurred during what was supposed to be a simple ride home, turning a moment of trust into a traumatic experience for the victim.
Throughout the course of the police investigation, Wahab’s account of the events was inconsistent. Initially, he denied any involvement, then later claimed to have no memory of the incident. He attempted to shift blame by suggesting that other individuals might have had access to his taxi, implying that someone else could have committed the assault. However, mobile phone data and other evidence linked Wahab directly to the scene of the crime, contradicting his claims and establishing his presence at the relevant time.
Despite Wahab’s persistent assertions that he could not recall the night of the offence, law enforcement officials compiled substantial evidence that placed him in the vicinity of the crime scene when the assault occurred. This evidence played a crucial role in securing his conviction.
Wahab was convicted in July of the previous year and was remanded in custody until his sentencing. On Monday, January 20, he was sentenced to three years in prison. Additionally, he will be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life, a measure that underscores the severity of his crime and the ongoing risk he poses to the community.
