ABUL MIAH'S HORRIFIC CRIME IN NEWCASTLE LEAVES TEENAGE GIRL TRAUMATIZED

In a chilling case that has shocked the community of Newcastle, a 19-year-old man named Abdul Miah was convicted and sentenced for a brutal assault on a 15-year-old girl. The incident took place on Elswick Road, where Miah forcibly detained the young victim at knifepoint, subjecting her to a harrowing ordeal that lasted approximately ninety minutes.

According to court reports, the teenage girl, who had no prior sexual experience, was coerced into stripping and was physically assaulted in a secluded area. During the attack, Miah, who was under the influence of vodka and cocaine, masked his face, revealing only his eyes, and held a knife to her throat to maintain control. The victim was so overwhelmed by fear and trauma that she was repeatedly sick, crying, and screaming in pain.

Throughout the assault, Miah issued commands to the girl, including instructing her on what to say when her worried mother called. The girl’s mother had become increasingly anxious when her daughter failed to return home from a local youth club in the evening, especially as her calls to her mobile phone went unanswered. The mother’s concern grew when she learned her daughter was missing, prompting her to make multiple calls to her daughter’s phone.

Unbeknownst to her mother, her daughter was being held captive and manipulated by Miah. During the attack, the girl’s phone kept ringing, and Miah, angry at her attempts to contact her family, eventually told her to answer the calls. He put the phone on loudspeaker and directed her to lie to her mother, fearing repercussions if she disobeyed.

After the assault, Miah made a disturbing remark to his victim, telling her, “You will always be the girl who got raped and no one will like you any more.” This statement underscored the psychological trauma inflicted upon her. The court heard that Miah’s actions not only physically injured the girl but also left her deeply traumatized, with lasting emotional scars.

Following the incident, authorities quickly identified Miah through DNA evidence found on the girl’s clothing. He was arrested and brought before Newcastle Crown Court, where the severity of his actions was thoroughly examined. Prosecutor Katherine Dunn described the repeated calls to the girl’s mobile and the fear and distress caused to her and her family.

During the sentencing, Judge James Goss QC sentenced Miah to 12 years in prison, with an extended license period of six years. The judge also mandated that Miah adhere to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order and sign the Sex Offender’s Register for life. Furthermore, he was permanently barred from working with children, reflecting the gravity of his crimes.

In his remarks, Judge Goss emphasized the prolonged and terrifying nature of the attack, highlighting the physical and emotional damage inflicted on the young victim. He stated, “It was a long ordeal for your young victim. She was told during the ordeal she would always be the girl who got raped and no-one would like her any more. You also told her what to say when her family members rang her mobile phone, wondering where she was. They were obviously very concerned about her.”

Defense lawyer Richard Bloomfield acknowledged that Miah had consumed alcohol and drugs prior to the attack and initially intended only to commit a robbery, not a sexual assault. He expressed remorse, stating, “No right-thinking member of society could regard what happened that evening as anything other than utterly abhorrent. Nothing can be said that would justify the infliction of this behaviour upon this young girl, uninvited and unwanted, as she made her way home, utterly lawfully.”

Ultimately, the court’s verdict underscores the severity of Abdul Miah’s actions and the profound impact on his young victim, leaving a community to grapple with the aftermath of such a heinous crime in Newcastle.
