BIRMINGHAM 'MOSQUE TEACHER' DAD ACCUSED OF ABUSING CHILD DURING GARDEN SHED LESSONS
A Birmingham dad-of-five stands accused of sexually assaulting a child at his family home where he taught Quran lessons in his garden shed.A jury is deliberating in the trial of 'Mosque teacher' Abdul Haq, 42, of Colonial Road, Bordesley Green, charged with two counts of sexually assaulting a child under 13.
He also faces two counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration but denies all allegations.
He allegedly committed the abuse on multiple occasions between 2017 and 2020 while running religious classes several times a week from a shed in his garden, described in court as a 'mosque'.
The alleged victim, one of his students, was abused in various rooms inside Haq's home, reportedly when his family was not present.
Prosecutor Jason Bartfeld KC said Haq would have been able to see when the 'coast was clear' and suggested the abuse occurred on '10 or more occasions'.
The court heard there was CCTV installed inside the house, but it was not recording at the time.
Haq, who has no prior convictions, denies the allegations, claiming the child may have been upset after a previous incident and suggests the victim has a 'strong imagination'.
His wife supported his account, stating the child had been inside the house before.
The jury deliberated for just over two hours before being sent home, to continue their consideration.
The judge emphasized the case revolved around whose account is believed.
