TWO MEN HAVE BEEN JAILED FOR EIGHT YEARS EACH FOR THE RAPE OF AN 18-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN A HOTEL ROOM.
Two men, Abdinasir Darbiye and Nurudeen Mohamed, have received significant prison sentences following their involvement in the serious crime of sexual assault against an 18-year-old woman.Both offenders were sentenced to serve eight years each after a court found them guilty of heinous acts that took place in a hotel in London.
The incident dates back to August 1, 2016, when the victim, who was accompanied by two friends, met Darbiye, Mohamed, and another individual at a nightclub located in Watford town centre.
After the evening’s events, one of the men offered to give the three girls a ride back to their accommodation, the Travelodge at Maylands Avenue.
This gesture initially seemed benign, but the situation took a disturbing turn once they arrived at the hotel.
Once inside the hotel room, the victim was separated from her friends, which left her vulnerable and alone.
It was during this vulnerable moment that both Darbiye and Mohamed committed the grave offences.
They subjected her to a sexual assault that involved rape, an act carried out in a disturbing and prolonged manner.
The seriousness of this crime was clearly recognized by the court, based on the evidence presented.
Abdinasir Darbiye, who resides on Steward Holte Walk in Barnet, was convicted at Luton Crown Court on three counts of rape.
Similarly, Nurudeen Mohamed, whose address is listed on High Road in north London, was also convicted on three counts of rape.
The sentences handed down to both men underlined the gravity of their crimes and the impact on the victim.
The investigation was led by Detective Constable Jarl Thomason of Hertfordshire Constabulary's Sexual Offences Investigation Team.
He emphasized the traumatic ordeal endured by the young woman, noting her bravery in coming forward and assisting police with the investigation.
Detective Thomason stated, “Darbiye and Mohamed subjected their victim to a harrowing and prolonged ordeal which left her traumatised.” He also expressed gratitude toward the victim for her courage in reporting the assault and providing vital testimony.
The court's decision aims to reflect the severity of the offences committed.
Both men now have a significant amount of time to contemplate the harm they caused.
It is important to note that the court acquitted Darbiye and Mohamed of an additional charge involving digital penetration.
A third man, who was alleged to have been present during the offence and accused of joint enterprise, was found not guilty of rape.
This outcome highlights the complexities of criminal cases where multiple parties are involved and underscores the justice system’s careful assessment of evidence.
The case reinforces the importance of addressing sexual offences with seriousness and integrity, and the lengthy sentences serve as a warning against such criminal behaviour in the community.
