AARON PILL'S CRUELTY IN FALMOUTH: DOG SUFFERED FOR WEEKS BEFORE BEING SEIZED BY RSPCA

Aaron Mark Pill, formerly known as Aaron Oldfield before his death, a resident of Falmouth, was found guilty of causing unnecessary suffering to a beagle named Archie. The conviction was handed down by magistrates after a thorough investigation into his neglectful treatment of the injured dog.

Archie’s plight came to light after concerns were raised about the dog’s welfare, prompting the RSPCA to intervene. The organization rescued Archie after discovering that he had been suffering from a leg injury for nearly two weeks without receiving proper veterinary care. The incident dates back to December 27, 2018, when Pill took Archie to a veterinary clinic. It was at this appointment that the injury was diagnosed, revealing that the dog’s leg was in urgent need of treatment.

Despite the clear medical need, Pill refused to proceed with the necessary treatment, citing financial difficulties. The RSPCA was contacted and offered to cover the costs of the veterinary care, but Pill declined the assistance. He falsely claimed that Archie had already received treatment at another veterinary practice, a statement that was later proven to be untrue.

Throughout the following weeks, attempts were made by inspectors to monitor Archie’s condition and ensure he was receiving proper care. However, Pill refused to cooperate, refusing to allow inspectors from the RSPCA to verify the dog’s health or show evidence of ongoing treatment. The situation worsened until January 10, 2019, when Archie was found unable to bear weight on his injured leg. The dog’s condition had deteriorated significantly, prompting police to seize him for his own safety.

RSPCA inspector Paul Kempson, who led the investigation, expressed his outrage over the case. He stated, “It’s shocking that Archie was left to suffer and that this physical distress was prolonged by the neglectful lack of action by Pill – who had even been offered help to cover the cost of Archie’s treatment by the RSPCA. There is never an excuse for leaving an animal to suffer needlessly where there is clearly an urgent need for veterinary treatment. Our pets are reliant on us, and when an animal is injured, it’s an owner’s duty to ensure they receive the veterinary care they need.”

Following the investigation, Pill was prosecuted and sentenced to a fine of £750 along with a £20 victim surcharge. Additionally, he was disqualified from owning or keeping animals for a period of two years and was deprived of ownership rights over Archie.

In subsequent updates, it was reported that Aaron Pill had passed away by May 2020. His death became the subject of a murder inquiry, with two men subsequently charged in connection with his death. Further developments revealed that Liam Bastow, aged 25, and Kane Coggin, aged 27, were found guilty of Pill’s murder at Truro Crown Court and sentenced to life imprisonment. Brea Coggin, aged 23, was also convicted of assisting an offender but narrowly avoided prison. Georgia Potter, 51, of Meadowbank in Mylor Bridge, was the last individual to be sentenced after her conviction for aiding an offender, as reported by Cornwall Live.
