2007: PERVERTED GRANDDAD JAILED
A 75-year-old man has been imprisoned for three years after a long history of sexual offenses against children spanning over 40 years.Surtees Worley, who was employed in a carpet shop located in Wordsley, admitted to six charges of indecency with a child and two counts of indecent assault.
His crimes took place from 1967 through to the late 1990s.
Prosecutor Mr.
Walter Bealby outlined that Worley's offending began in 1967 when his first victim, a four-year-old, was targeted.
His predatory behavior persisted until 1998, during which he also assaulted a girl aged five and committed similar acts against a teenage girl.
During the hearing, Defender Mr.
David Munro explained to Wolverhampton Crown Court on August 10 that Worley had a history of good conduct previously and was a responsible worker supporting his family.
He further noted that Worley, who uses a walking stick, is suffering from several health conditions, making incarceration particularly challenging.
Judge Nicholas Webb, addressing Worley—residing on Oak Street, Netherton—highlighted the psychological damage caused to his victims.
While considering Worley's advanced age and health issues, the judge decided that only a prison sentence would be suitable for his serious and indecent offenses.
He stated that if Worley had been younger, the sentence would likely have been much longer, commenting: “This was an abuse that took place over many years.”
