MANCHESTER MAN JAILED FOR RAPING SEX WORKER AFTER DISPUTE

A man named Zoro Banciu, aged 33, was convicted of raping a sex worker after a confrontation on a street in Manchester. The incident occurred in the early hours when Banciu approached the woman, asking if she 'wanted to do business,' to which she responded with a 'tenner.' They then walked behind a supermarket, where Banciu initially grabbed her hand, but she insisted on payment first. After handing over a £5 note because he claimed it was all he had, Banciu became violent, kicking her in the groin, punching her, and eventually raping her. The attack lasted approximately six minutes, during which he also bit her neck, leaving bruises and cuts.

Following the assault, the woman reported the incident to police. DNA evidence recovered from her neck matched Banciu's, who was arrested at Liverpool Airport while attempting to fly to London, with prosecutors believing he intended to return to Romania. The woman bravely attended court and read out a personal statement, describing how the attack changed her: "It has had a terrible effect on my relationship, I am having trouble sleeping, and I wake up thinking about what happened. I will never understand why he didn't let me walk off, why he had to be so violent." The judge, Recorder Michael Hayton QC, acknowledged her courage and sentenced Banciu to six years and four months in prison after he pleaded guilty to rape. Banciu was also ordered to sign the sex offender register for life.
