WOMAN SENTENCED TO PRISON FOR STABBING HER PARTNER IN WADEBRIDGE
A woman from Wadebridge, Zena Dale-Woon, has been sentenced to 29 months in prison for causing grievous bodily harm to her boyfriend during a drunken incident. The incident occurred on September 10 last year, when she and her partner spent the day together consuming alcohol, including whisky and gin.
Later that evening, an argument broke out, during which Dale-Woon grabbed a 5-inch kitchen knife and stabbed her boyfriend in the stomach, causing a deep cut that resulted in his small intestine protruding out of his body.
The victim recalls regaining consciousness with an unexplained injury at the back of his head.
He was taken to hospital the next day, where he underwent a surgical operation to repair his small bowel and reposition his guts.
Dale-Woon was arrested and pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm without intent, having initially pleaded not guilty to GBH with intent.
The court heard that she had a prior caution for possession of a knife and a previous conviction for being drunk and disorderly.
Her defendant lawyer stated that she had a difficult start in life and struggled with mental health issues, exacerbated by alcohol.
In her victim impact statement, her partner said he no longer felt safe, cannot live at his parents’ house because she knows where it is, has trouble sleeping, and is unable to eat more than one meal a day due to his injury.
Her Honour Judge James Adkin noted that while there was no violence against Dale-Woon, there was a threatening atmosphere, which she responded to with excessive self-defence.
He sentenced her to 29 months in prison and imposed a four-year restraining order preventing her from contacting her victim.
She will serve half of her sentence before being eligible for release on licence.
