READING MAN ARRESTED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT AT TRAIN STATION

A violent sex offender who launched a ‘sickening’ attack on a young man on a train has been jailed following a BTP investigation.

Zakaria Mohammed, aged 32, of The Coppice, West Drayton, pleaded guilty to actual bodily harm, sexual assault, false imprisonment, and breaching a previous Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).

He was sentenced to one year and eight months at Reading Crown Court on 19 May and placed on the sex offenders register for 10 years.

He was also subjected to a 10-year SHPO and ordered to pay a £187 victim surcharge.

The court recounted that shortly before 8:30 am on Saturday 24 March, Mohammed sat directly opposite a 21-year-old victim in an empty carriage, made small talk, and then sexually assaulted him.

Mohammed, who appeared intoxicated and had a half-empty bottle of wine, moved to sit next to the victim.

When the victim tried to leave, Mohammed refused, forcing him to crawl under the table to escape, during which Mohammed repeatedly hit him over the head with his wine bottle.

After leaving the train, the victim reported heavy bleeding from head injuries.

BTP officers arrested Mohammed as he approached station barriers; he was found to be breaching a previous SHPO prohibiting him from traveling on public transport without a ticket.

BTP Detective Constable Lauren Pace described the assault as ‘truly sickening,’ noting that Mohammed is a ‘dangerous individual’ and emphasizing the court’s actions to prevent further attacks, including the SHPO.
