ACCRINGTON MAN AWAITS SENTENCING AFTER CHILD SEX CONVICTIONS
A PAEDOPHILE is awaiting sentence after his barrister asked for psychological or psychiatric reports to be ordered.Zaheer Arshad, 30, of College Street, Accrington, had earlier been convicted of two counts of sexual activity with a child.
His barrister Philip Curran told Burnley Crown Court that the defendant did not agree with the Crown Prosecution Service background to the case and sought to blame the two young victims in his pre-sentence report.
Judge Edward Slinger described the background as “disturbing” and stated that it was a case where a sentence of imprisonment for public protection must be considered.
The case was adjourned until October 31 and Arshad was remanded in custody.
