ASHINGTON MAN JAILED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT AFTER PREDATORY BEHAVIOUR
Predatory Yousuf Musa has been jailed after he repaid the kindness of one of his victims who was helping asylum seekers by subjecting her to a terrifying ordeal.Newcastle Crown Court heard Musa, who is from Ethiopia and sought asylum in the UK, asked the victim for a hug before grabbing and molesting her.
He appeared to find his shocking behaviour funny and was removed from the venue.
When he was arrested, he asked a police officer for a kiss then while in the van on the way to custody, he said an officer was beautiful, asked her to sit next to him and blew kisses at her.
Then, after being released, he followed another woman and assaulted her mother in another disturbing incident.
The court heard Musa, aged 28 of Green Lane, Ashington, described as 'acutely sexually preoccupied at the relevant times' and who 'created opportunities to engage in predatory behaviour,' has been jailed but was told he is likely to be released soon, due to time served on remand.
The court heard Musa approached his first victim, asked her name, gave her a hug, and later followed her to ask for another hug which she declined.
He later forcefully grabbed her by the genitals, pulled her towards him, put his hands upon her crotch, and put a hand on her breast over her clothing, while she struggled and told him 'no, get off me.' He responded 'don't you want this' and gestured to his genitals while making masturbating gestures upon himself.
The victim told him to leave and that she was calling the police, but he remained and was smiling.
A male colleague helped her, and Musa appeared to find the situation funny.
She expressed feeling frightened and upset for herself and others.
In a victim impact statement, she said the incident caused her emotional difficulties, and she felt 'hijacked by anger' and sought professional help.
He also followed a woman walking her dogs, tried to make eye contact, and asked to stroke the dogs.
When refused, he continued asking, put his hand on her shoulder, and was pulled away by her husband.
Her feelings were described as 'violated and threatened.' The judge highlighted that Musa was 'acutely sexually preoccupied' and created opportunities for predatory behaviour, posing a high risk of causing serious harm.
Musa pleaded guilty to sexual assault and common assault and was sentenced to 16 months in jail, must sign the sex offenders register for ten years, and was given five-year restraining orders.
He will be released soon as his remand time counts towards his sentence, only serving up to 40%.
He was born in Ethiopia and sought asylum in the UK.
His lawyer expressed hope for employment upon release, advocating for a community order instead of imprisonment.
