EAST LONDON MAN CONVICTED OF MANSLAUGHTER FOR GIRLFRIEND'S BRUTAL DEATH
Yahya Aboukar has been found guilty of manslaughter following the death of his partner, Kirsty Louise Ashley. The fatal incident took place on Christmas Day in 2021 at their home on Earlham Grove in Newham, where the couple was watching television in bed.
Reports indicate that Aboukar violently attacked Ms Ashley during this time.
Police reports revealed signs of a struggle inside the residence, including a bloodstained barbell, a claw hammer, and clothing scattered around.
Aboukar escaped the scene by jumping out of a bedroom window but was later captured by authorities.
The body of Kirsty Ashley was recovered in a black bag from the garden, which led to his arrest on suspicion of murder.
Autopsy reports showed she suffered fractures and hemorrhages primarily on her face and head, with evidence suggesting she tried to defend herself from the blows.
A neuropathologist testified that she was repeatedly struck with a heavy object such as a barbell or claw hammer and that she likely would not have survived more than half an hour after the attack.
At Snaresbrook Crown Court, Aboukar admitted to manslaughter, alleging that he lost control and that Ms Ashley had become violent, leading him to strike her twice and causing her head to hit the barbell.
The jury acquitted him of murder but convicted him of manslaughter.
A police inspector described Ms Ashley as weighing just 8 stone 2 pounds and characterized Aboukar's assault as 'incredibly brutal,' stressing that such violence is unforgivable and that he would be sentenced the following week.
A post-mortem confirmed she was killed by blunt force trauma.
