PORTADOWN SCOUT LEADER SENTENCED FOR HISTORIC SEX ABUSE
The article details the case of Wilson Alexander Reid, a former scout leader who was accused of a series of sexual offences committed against a single child.Reid, aged 67, confessed to eight counts of indecent assault and two counts of committing an act of gross indecency with a child, all carried out between November 1, 2001, and August 31, 2006.
During the proceedings at Craigavon Crown Court, he pleaded guilty on the basis of the full facts presented.
Despite previous recognitions, including medals and a certificate of merit from the Queen for his service, the court heard that Reid already appeared on the sex offenders’ register.
The judge warned that his walking out of court was no indication of the final outcome.
Reid was remanded on bail pending sentencing after the case was adjourned for a pre-sentence report and Victim Impact Statement.
The judge emphasized that Reid’s guilty pleas did not diminish the seriousness of his offences and underscored the gravity of his misconduct.
