SUSSEX MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO MANSLAUGHTER OF WIFE LINDA
William Thomas Allen, aged 67 and a resident of West Chiltington in West Sussex, admitted guilt to the charge of manslaughter during a court session at Lewes Crown Court. The victim, Linda Allen, his wife aged 64, was found in June 2011 with injuries to her head and multiple stab wounds.
The judge ordered a hospital detention for Allen, with the dates of his release to be set by the Ministry of Justice.
Police sources indicated that stress related to ongoing building repairs at a nearby property—where the couple planned to move—may have influenced Allen’s actions.
Detective Chief Inspector Trevor Bowles described the incident as tragic, stating, 'This was a devastating series of events.
Unfortunately, the true motive behind Mr Allen’s decision to kill his wife in a burst of violence will likely never be known.' Allen was apprehended after making a call to emergency services.
Upon discovery, officers noted knife wounds to his legs and blood splatter throughout the residence.
Mrs.
Allen’s brother paid tribute to her as a loving and caring sister who enjoyed animals and gardening.
The court acknowledged that mental health issues played a role and ordered Allen to be detained in a hospital, with further treatment arrangements to be determined by health authorities.
