ELGIN SEX OFFENDER WILLIAM MACKAY GETS NINE YEARS FOR CHILD AND ADULT RAPE
William Mackay, a convicted sex offender whose offending history began when he was just 13 years old, has received a sentence of nine years imprisonment.During the court hearing, it was revealed that Mackay had abused a girl who was only 11 at the time, subjecting her to multiple instances of abuse before raping her in a caravan setting.
Additionally, he committed sexual offenses against a woman in Moray, which involved repeated rapes during which he pulled her hair, pinned her down, and struggled with her.
Now 61 years old, Mackay has an extensive criminal record featuring 25 previous convictions, none of which involved sexual crimes.
His involvement in sexual offending started in October 1977 with abuse against a younger girl, including molestation and coercing her into a sexual act.
Between October 1982 and 1984, he further assaulted and raped her while she was an underage teenager.
His latest sexual offenses took place from June 1993 against the woman.
During the sentencing at Edinburgh’s High Court, Lord Summers remarked, “You have a bad criminal record,” and described the girl’s suffering as “manifestly wrong.” The court issued non-harassment orders, banned Mackay from contacting victims indefinitely, and mandated that he stay on the sex offenders’ register for an indefinite duration.
Mackay was present at the hearing via a TV link from prison, fully aware that the sentence underscores the gravity of his crimes.
