WILLIAM DEMPSTER FROM LANARKSHIRE ARRESTED IN THAILAND'S PATTAYA AFTER EIGHT-YEAR MANHUNT
In a significant development in international crime enforcement, William Dempster, a 46-year-old man originally from Lanarkshire, Scotland, has been apprehended in the bustling city of Pattaya, Thailand, after nearly a decade on the run.Dempster's case dates back to May 2014 when he was convicted of possessing indecent images of children.
Despite his conviction, he managed to evade sentencing by posting bail and subsequently disappearing from the UK, prompting a lengthy and ongoing manhunt.
His disappearance sparked a coordinated effort involving multiple law enforcement agencies, including Police Scotland, the National Crime Agency (NCA), and the Royal Thai Police.
After years of investigation and international cooperation, authorities finally tracked him to the notorious 'Sin City' of Pattaya, a city well-known for its vibrant nightlife and reputation as a hub for expatriates and tourists alike.
On May 30, 2022, Dempster was located living in the Bang Lamung district of Pattaya.
His arrest was captured on video, showing a visibly nervous and sweating man being questioned by Thai police officers outside his residence.
The authorities revealed that Dempster was not only overstaying his visa but also had an outstanding warrant for his arrest, which had been issued in connection with his previous conviction in the UK.
Following his arrest, Dempster was detained by Thai police and is now facing deportation back to Scotland.
