LANARKSHIRE CARER ISSUED WARNING FOR ABUSIVE BEHAVIOUR TOWARDS PARTNER
A Lanarkshire carer has been issued a warning after being found to have abused her partner over a seven-month period.Sophie Crouch was convicted at Hamilton Sheriff Court on March 9, 2024.
The abuse was found to be aggravated by prejudice relating to disability, which the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) described as "particularly concerning," especially given her prior role supporting individuals with disabilities in social services.
First offender Crouch is reported to have subjected her partner, now ex, to a campaign of abuse lasting seven months, which had a "significant emotional impact on the victim." The SSSC confirmed that the abuse was "aggravated by prejudice relating to disability" under Scottish law.
A report stated: "The conviction represents a serious departure from the Codes of Practice.
Any form of abusive behaviour, including domestic abuse, raises serious concerns about your underlying character and values." It also assessed the risk of repetition as relatively low, noting that the behaviour took place outside of work and was confined to her personal relationship.
Crouch has complied with her criminal sentence with no concerns raised since her conviction, and ongoing public protection concerns are deemed low.
While she has shown remorse, she demonstrated limited insight into the impact of her actions.
The article notes that her professional registration was marked with a warning valid for 36 months, effective from August 19, 2025.
