TYNESIDE SEX ATTACKER WHO RAPED TWO WOMEN ON THE SAME DAY JAILED FOR 14 YEARS
A sex attacker who raped two women in separate attacks on the same day has been jailed for 14 years.Wesley McKenna subjected two victims to terrifying ordeals within hours of each other in May 2024.
The first victim was drunk and fell asleep and woke to find McKenna raping her.
Later that day, he carried out a second rape on a vulnerable woman, who "froze" as he carried out the attack and was unable to push him off because of his strength and weight.
Sentencing McKenna, 48, of Oswin Road, Forest Hall, at Newcastle Crown Court, Judge Tim Gittins said: "The effect on both victims has been profound." One woman said it has affected her mental health and her relationship with her family and the other said she has felt compelled to move home as a result of what happened and has been left feeling isolated.
She also feared she had been infected with hepatitis, which McKenna has, but she was not.
McKenna, who has 106 previous convictions but nothing for sexual offences, was found guilty after a trial of two counts of rape and four of sexual assault.
He was jailed for 14 years with an extended licence period of a further five years.
He must also sign the sex offenders register indefinitely and was given restraining orders in relation to both victims.
The court heard McKenna "has not had an easy life" since a childhood accident left him with a brain injury.
He has learning difficulties and suffers from paranoid schizophrenia.
