NORTH TYNESIDE MAN AVOIDS PRISON AFTER ASSAULTING WIFE WITH A HOT CROSS BUN
A man who threw a hot cross bun at his wife during a domestic dispute that turned violent has escaped jail time.On April 18 this year, Adam Scope and his partner had a disagreement, which was loud enough to alarm a neighbor who subsequently contacted the police.
When law enforcement officers arrived at the scene, Scope seemed composed and had a minor scratch on his face, while his wife appeared distressed.
Initially, he was charged with common assault and strangulation; however, the prosecutors withdrew the strangulation allegation after Scope pleaded guilty solely to the common assault count.
He acknowledged that the argument stemmed from a disagreement over him going out with friends and that it turned physical.
The court was informed that Scope grabbed his wife’s arm, pushed her, then pushed her towards the sofa, causing her to fall, and took her phone after she contacted his father.
The court also heard that the woman sustained bruises from the incident.
Although she chose not to give a witness statement, citing the mental toll it had taken on her, she expressed her desire for peace and felt that pursuing legal action wouldn’t help her mental health.
Scope, aged 43 and residing in Kirklands, Burradon, North Tyneside, has no prior criminal history.
He received a 12-month community order, which includes 40 hours of unpaid work.
His solicitor, Mark Harrison, conveyed that Scope is “utterly ashamed” of his conduct and clarified that the confrontation arose from an argument that got out of control.
Harrison also noted that the couple, married since 2003, have faced ongoing difficulties—mainly due to Scope’s work absences and infidelity—but they were actively seeking reconciliation.
