MAN JAILED FOR VIOLENT AND SEXUAL ASSAULTS INCLUDING STRANGLING PARTNER
Wayne Morgan, a 33-year-old father of three from Lancaster, was convicted of multiple serious offences including strangling his partner with a belt and attacking her friend.He also sexually assaulted a woman in her flat, demonstrating grave violent and sexual misconduct.
Morgan, who had a history of mood swings and emotional instability linked to polysubstance misuse and alcohol blackouts, exhibited dangerous and unpredictable behaviour during the incident.
The court heard that on October 16, Morgan, while at a family gathering, argued with his partner, followed her home carrying a bottle of vodka, and then broke into a neighbour's flat at around 1:30 a.m., shouting threats and groping the resident.
His partner confronted him at her flat where he, believing she was going to hit him, slapped her and then punched her, followed by strangling her with his hands.
He also placed his belt across her throat, strangling her 'really tight' while on the sofa.
He then followed her to a friend's flat, removed his belt and placed it around her neck again, threatening to kill her and others.
When the police arrived, Morgan fled but continued to threaten and kick the door of the victims' flat.
Morgan pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm, sexual assault, and common assault.
He was sentenced to seven years in prison with three years on license, as a measure to protect the public from his evident risk of serious harm.
The judge described his actions as 'very serious offending' that needed severe punishment, highlighting his dangerous behaviour and the threat he posed to others.
